- The Fourfold Vision of BCC
- The vision of Berean Community Church is to glorify God by establishing
- 1. God centered worship and not man centered. Our primary goal in our church is to worship God in spirit and in truth. We must not confuse evangelism and worship. Because our primary call as Christians is to glorify God, the primary work of a church is to worship Him. We believe that any worship that is more concerned about the desires of man than the desires of God is a worship that is unacceptable in God's eyes.
- 2. ..a church that equips every believer with God's inerrant word. We believe that all Christians have been called to bear fruit in accordance to repentance and that God has given the church His living word to be sufficient for the sanctification of all genuine believers. ---Therefore the correct teaching and studying of God's word is an essential discipline of all genuine believers.
- 3. .. a church that is committed to its members through --love, accountability, support, and discipline. Our Christian lives are not meant to be lived in isolation. God has placed all genuine believers to function in the body of Christ to worship, learn, fellowship, serve, love and submit to one another.
- 4. .. a church that reaches out to its community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The best form of evangelism is to build evangelists in the church. We believe that evangelism should not just be a program of the church but the heart beat of every member of the church. We desire to shine the light of Christ through our lives as well as through our preaching.
- Sunday Worship
- Our philosophy of corporate worship:
- In John 4:24-Jesus told the Samaritan woman that God is looking for people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. We believe that our highest calling as a church is to fulfill that obligation to our God and creator. Our Sunday worship is focused first and foremost to respect and glorify our God. It is a worship geared toward believers and not non-believers, though they are always welcome and present. Our primary task in worship is not evangelism, though all genuine worship should reflect the glory of God to the unbelieving world. Our Sunday morning messages are geared toward equipping the church with God's word. We preach through the whole bible so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16,17). Our praise songs are carefully selected for doctrinal accuracies. We believe that a worship that does not engage the mind cannot engage the heart. Nor can a genuine worship engage the mind without engaging the heart. A church that worships in spirit and in truth must also engage in genuine worship inside and outside of the corporate gathering of believers. We believe that it is not possible to honor God if we fail in our corporate worship.
- Weekday Bible Study
- Our weekday bible studies are held every Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7 p.m. Each week questions are posted up on our website to prepare before attending the study. The bible studies are designed to study the bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, and book by book. We believe that if we attempt to apply the bible without first properly interpreting the bible it will lead to false applications. Understanding the proper context and cultural background are crucial in understanding the intended message of each passage. Before we can be subjective we must first learn to be objective. Each person who attends the bible study is encouraged to prepare on their own by doing an observation, question and answer, cross reference and application method of bible study. Reading suggested commentaries are not a must but is encouraged.
- Community Groups
- The church members are divided into community groups based on location of their residence. Each community group is overseen by an Elder or one of the Pastors of the church who will function as their shepherds in a smaller scale. The community groups are designed to encourage the building up of communities in a smaller context. These groups meet on a monthly basis. You must be a member of the church to join these groups or must be invited as a guest of one of the members of the church.
- Couple's/Family Fellowship
- All the couples and families gather together on a bi-monthly basis. This ministry is designed to encourage sharing of lives for those who are married with or without children. It also exists to help strengthen the marriages and families of BCC to be Christ centered and God honoring. There are special seminars planned specifically for family building that will be held bi-annually.
- Basics in Christianity Class (BCC)
- This class is designed to cover fundamental doctrines of Christianity. It is also designed as a pre-membership class for people who are interested in becoming a member of Berean Community Church. The class will help younger Christians to establish a firmer foundation for their faith and for interested potential members to learn more about how the core values of our church and how it is organized. This class is offered three times a year. It is a ten week course with a brief quiz to help retain what you learn at the last session. It is offered first in January then in late April then again in September.
- Membership Covenant Class
- This class is a one day class for those who have completed Basics in Christianity Class successfully. We go over the tenfold covenant for all the members of the church. At the end of the class if potential members will turn in a signed covenant to the church and the new members will be introduced to the church at the next member’s meeting, which is held quarterly.
- Member's Meeting
- Member’s meetings are held quarterly. During the meeting we introduce new members of the church and review the tenfold covenant of BCC. We review the current concerns of the church and discuss the next three months calendar of events. Church finances and disciplinary issues are also one of the agendas of the church member’s meeting.
- Service Team
- Service teams are created to help our members utilize their gifts to build up the body of Christ. Explanation of various teams are posted on the ministry’s page. Each service team will be represented by one of the leaders of the team at a monthly team meeting. During these meetings we discuss the specific needs of the church that needs attention and each service team leader presents their current and upcoming activities so the other teams will be informed of their ministry. You must be a member of the church to join one of these teams but potential members are always welcomed to serve the Body informally during the membership process.
- Missions
- Since 2000 BCC has been going to Asia for short term missions trips during summer. We have established Berean English Institute as an avenue to send English teachers abroad for the purpose of making disciples overseas. We take applications for summer missions in January and begin our training in March. The missions are usually three weeks long and typically take place during the month of July. This opportunity is open to all members of the church and non-members by approval of the leadership team. Our long term goal is to send full-time missionaries abroad to plant sister churches in those respective areas.
